Unpacking and Setup

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place on a stable, level surface.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and protective covers.
  2. Attach the free-arm extension if it is separate.
  3. Install the presser foot by lowering the lever and snapping it into place.
  4. Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.
  5. Install the accessory box into the designated storage area.

WARNING! The machine is heavy; lift with care using both hands. Ensure the surface is stable to prevent tipping.

First-Time Operation

Power on the machine; familiarize yourself with the controls before threading.

  1. Thread the machine: Follow the color-coded guides for upper looper, lower looper, right needle, and left needle.
  2. Insert needles: Ensure the flat side of the needle shank faces the back and is fully inserted.
  3. Wind and install lower looper thread: Use the built-in spool pin and follow the threading path.
  4. Test on scrap fabric: Adjust stitch length, width, and differential feed as needed.
  5. Practice basic seams: Start with a 4-thread overlock stitch on medium-weight fabric.

CAUTION! Always turn the handwheel toward you (counter-clockwise) to avoid timing issues. Keep fingers away from moving needles.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Main controls located on the front and side of the machine.

Front Panel: Power Switch/light, Stitch Length Dial, Stitch Width Dial, Differential Feed Lever, Presser Foot Lever, Handwheel.

Threading Area: Color-coded guides (Blue for Upper Looper, Green for Lower Looper, Red for Right Needle, Yellow for Left Needle), Tension Dials (4 dials for each thread path), Built-in Needle Threader.

Settings: Stitch Length (1.0-4.0 mm), Stitch Width (3.0-7.0 mm), Differential Feed (0.7 for compression, 2.0 for stretching), Thread Tension (adjustable dials 0-9).

Threading the Machine

Follow the color-coded diagram and numbered steps for proper threading.

  1. Raise the presser foot and lower the needle thread levers.
  2. Thread Upper Looper (Blue): Follow the blue path from spool to looper.
  3. Thread Lower Looper (Green): Follow the green path, using the lower looper threader if equipped.
  4. Thread Right Needle (Red): Use the built-in needle threader for ease.
  5. Thread Left Needle (Yellow): Repeat needle threading process.
  6. Pull all threads under the presser foot and toward the back before starting.

Tip: Always thread with the presser foot up to open the tension discs. Pull threads firmly through the guides to ensure proper seating.

Basic Stitches and Techniques

The 3034D can create several stitch types for different applications.

  1. 4-Thread Overlock: Standard seam for woven and knit fabrics. Use all four threads.
  2. 3-Thread Overlock: Lighter finish. Remove left needle thread and adjust tensions.
  3. Rolled Hem: For fine edges on lightweight fabrics. Adjust stitch width to narrowest setting and follow manual instructions for threading changes.
  4. Flatlocking: Decorative technique. Requires specific threading and tension adjustments.
  5. Gathering: Set differential feed above 1.0 (e.g., 1.5-2.0) for gentle gathering.
  6. Stretchy Seams: Set differential feed below 1.0 (e.g., 0.7-0.8) to prevent stretching on knits.

WARNING! Always test stitches on a scrap of your project fabric first. Do not pull fabric forcefully; let the feed dogs move it.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

  1. Daily: Brush away lint from the looper area, needle plate, and feed dogs with the provided brush.
  2. Weekly/Occasionally: Remove the needle plate and throat plate to clean accumulated lint and threads. Oil the machine as specified in the manual (only where indicated).
  3. Needles: Replace bent or dull needles immediately. Use the correct type (HAx1 SP).
  4. Exterior: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use solvents or sprays.

CAUTION! Always unplug the machine before performing any maintenance or cleaning. Never force parts into place.
