Installation & Setup

Unpack all contents carefully. Place machine on a stable, well-lit table.

  1. Attach the Embroidery Unit: Align and slide into position until it clicks.
  2. Install the Foot Pedal: Plug the connector into the designated port on the machine.
  3. Connect the Power Cord: Plug into the machine and then into a 120V AC outlet.
  4. Wind and Insert the Bobbin: Follow the threading guide on the machine.
  5. Thread the Upper Thread: Use the automatic needle threader for ease.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from moving parts, especially the needle area, during setup and operation.

First-Time Operation

Power on the machine using the main switch; the LCD screen will illuminate.

  1. Select a Stitch: Touch the stitch category icon, then choose your desired stitch.
  2. Attach Presser Foot: Lower the presser foot lever to secure the correct foot for your stitch.
  3. Test Sew: Place fabric under the presser foot, lower the foot, and gently press the foot pedal to start sewing.
  4. Adjust Settings: Use the LCD screen to modify stitch length, width, or needle position as needed.

CAUTION! Always turn the main power switch OFF and disconnect the power plug when changing needles, presser feet, or performing maintenance.

Controls and Functions

Access all functions via the LCD touch screen or physical buttons. Main Panel: Power Switch, Start/Stop Button, Needle Up/Down, Automatic Thread Cutter, Speed Control Slider.

LCD Screen: Displays selected stitch/design, editing options, settings, and help messages. Use to select stitches, edit embroidery, adjust tension, and access utility functions.

Sewing Settings: Stitch length, stitch width, mirror image, twin needle mode. Embroidery Settings: Design rotation, scaling, lettering, editing, thread colour list. Utility: Language selection (default ENGLISH), button beep sound, screen brightness, machine reset.

Threading & Bobbin Winding

Correct threading is essential for proper stitch formation.

  1. Raise the presser foot and needle to the highest position using the handwheel.
  2. Place the spool on the spool pin. Follow the numbered threading path on the machine.
  3. Use the automatic needle threader lever to thread the eye of the needle.
  4. For the bobbin, wind thread onto an empty bobbin using the built-in winder on top of the machine.
  5. Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case with the thread running counter-clockwise. Pull the thread under the tension spring.

Tip: Always thread with the presser foot raised to open the upper thread tension discs.

Sewing & Stitch Selection

Supports a wide variety of sewing techniques.

  1. Select Mode: Touch the 'Sewing' icon on the LCD.
  2. Choose Stitch: Browse categories (Utility, Decorative, etc.) and touch your selection.
  3. Adjust Settings: Modify length/width if needed. Attach the recommended presser foot.
  4. Position Fabric: Place fabric under the foot, lower the presser foot lever.
  5. Sew: Press the foot pedal or the Start/Stop button. Guide the fabric gently.
  6. Finish: Press the automatic thread cutter or raise the needle and pull fabric to the rear to cut threads.

WARNING! Do not pull or push the fabric forcefully; let the feed dogs move it. Always use the correct needle and thread for your fabric.

Embroidery Functions

Attach the embroidery unit and hoop your fabric securely in the frame.

  1. Select Mode: Touch the 'Embroidery' icon.
  2. Choose Design: Select from built-in designs or connect a USB stick for custom designs (PES).
  3. Edit Design: Use the LCD to combine designs, rotate, resize, or add lettering.
  4. Hoop Fabric: Use stabilizer. Secure the hoop onto the embroidery unit.
  5. Start Embroidering: Press the Start/Stop button. The machine will trim jump threads automatically between colours.
  6. Change Thread: Follow on-screen prompts to change thread colours.

CAUTION! Never move the embroidery hoop by hand during embroidery. Ensure the area around the machine is clear as the unit moves.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug the machine before any cleaning or maintenance.

  1. Cleaning: Use the small brush provided to remove lint from the feed dogs, bobbin area, and hook race.
  2. Oiling: Apply one drop of sewing machine oil to the hook race only as indicated in the diagram (usually infrequently).
  3. Needle Replacement: Turn power off. Loosen the needle clamp screw and replace with a new needle, flat side to the rear.
  4. Cover: Use the dust cover when the machine is not in use to prevent dust accumulation.

CAUTION! Do not use compressed air to clean the machine as it can force lint into the mechanisms. Use only Brother-recommended oil.

Troubleshooting
