Basic Sewing Techniques

Master these fundamental techniques for successful sewing.

  1. Seam Sewing: Align fabric edges, lower presser foot, sew forward using guide lines on needle plate.
  2. Reverse Reinforcement: Hold reverse lever at start and end of seam for 2-3 stitches.
  3. Turning Corners: Stop with needle down in fabric, raise presser foot, pivot fabric, lower foot, continue sewing.
  4. Zigzag Finishing: Sew along raw edge to prevent fraying.
  5. Buttonhole: Mark button placement, select Step 1 (Pattern A), sew left side; Step 2 (B) for front bar; Step 3 (C) for right side; Step 4 (D) for back bar. Use buttonhole foot for best results.
  6. Free Arm Sewing: Remove accessory storage to access free arm for sewing sleeves, cuffs, and pant legs.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from moving needle. Do not pull fabric while sewing; let feed dogs move it.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

  1. Unplug machine before any cleaning or maintenance.
  2. Change needle regularly: Dull or bent needles cause skipped stitches and fabric damage.
  3. Clean lint buildup: Remove needle plate screws, lift plate, use brush to clean feed dogs and bobbin area.
  4. Oil sparingly: Apply 1-2 drops of sewing machine oil to moving parts as indicated in manual (usually hook race). Wipe excess oil.
  5. Exterior cleaning: Wipe with soft, dry cloth. Do not use solvents or sprays.

CAUTION! Never immerse machine in water. Use only recommended sewing machine oil.
