Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, flat surface.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and protective tape from machine.
  2. Install foot controller: Plug into machine's foot controller jack.
  3. Connect power: Plug power cord into machine, then into AC outlet.
  4. Install needle: Use screwdriver to loosen needle clamp screw, insert needle with flat side toward back, tighten screw.
  5. Wind bobbin: Place thread on spool pin, follow threading path to bobbin, engage bobbin winder.
  6. Insert bobbin: Remove bobbin case, insert bobbin with thread unwinding counterclockwise, replace bobbin case.

WARNING! Keep hands away from moving parts during operation. Ensure machine is on stable surface to prevent tipping.

First-Time Operation

Power on machine; follow on-screen prompts.

  1. Thread upper thread: Follow numbered threading path on machine, use automatic needle threader.
  2. Draw up bobbin thread: Hold upper thread, turn handwheel toward you to bring bobbin thread up.
  3. Select stitch: Use LCD touch screen to browse and select sewing stitch.
  4. Test sew: Place fabric under presser foot, lower foot, press foot controller to begin sewing.
  5. For embroidery: Hoop fabric in embroidery hoop, attach to machine, select design from LCD.

CAUTION! Always turn off power before changing needle or performing maintenance.

Connecting to Computer

USB connection for design transfer.

  1. Install Brother software: Install PE-DESIGN or other compatible software on computer.
  2. Connect USB cable: Use standard USB cable to connect machine to computer.
  3. Transfer designs: Use software to select and send designs to machine memory.
  4. Access designs: On machine, select "USB" from embroidery menu to access imported designs.

Tip: Format USB drive to FAT32 before use. Maximum design size is 4" x 4".

Embroidery Operation

Supports built-in designs, imported designs, and monogramming.

  1. Hoop fabric: Use appropriate size hoop with stabilizer if needed.
  2. Attach hoop: Place hoop on embroidery unit, lock in place.
  3. Select design: Browse designs on LCD, select desired pattern.
  4. Edit design: Resize, rotate, combine, or mirror as needed.
  5. Thread colors: Machine will prompt for color changes during embroidery.
  6. Start embroidery: Press start button or foot controller to begin.
  7. Monitor progress: Watch LCD for completion status and color change prompts.
  8. Remove hoop: When finished, unlock hoop, remove fabric.

WARNING! Keep hands away from moving embroidery arm. Always use appropriate stabilizer for fabric type.

Sewing Functions

103 built-in stitches including straight, zigzag, decorative, and buttonhole.

  1. Select stitch: Use LCD or stitch selection buttons.
  2. Adjust settings: Modify length, width, tension as needed for fabric.
  3. Attach presser foot: Use appropriate foot for selected stitch.
  4. Position fabric: Place under presser foot, lower foot lever.
  5. Begin sewing: Use foot controller or start/stop button.
  6. Automatic buttonhole: Select buttonhole stitch, place button in foot, machine sews perfect buttonhole.
  7. Twin needle: Install twin needle for parallel stitching (max width 4mm).

Tip: Always test stitch settings on scrap fabric before sewing project.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug before cleaning. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.

  1. Cleaning: Use small brush to remove lint from bobbin area and feed dogs.
  2. Oiling: Apply drop of sewing machine oil to hook race once per month (check manual for specific points).
  3. Needle replacement: Replace needle after 8-10 hours of sewing or if damaged.
  4. Cover: Use dust cover when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.

CAUTION! Use only Brother recommended needles and bobbins. Do not use compressed air for cleaning.
